What an Experience in Belgium!

So today was our first official day out in Belgium. I have to say it's an attractive and active little town! It's hard to believe that the town of Bastogne was such an important town during WWII. I'd have to say that so far, the most overwhelming experience on this trip has been here in Belgium. We went to visit the memorial of eleven African American soldiers. These men had separated from the rest of the men and hid in a forest from the enemy. They were weak and starved when they arrived at a lady's house nearby. Here they were eating when the German's found and captured them. These men were tortured and eventually killed. On the spot of their deaths there's a memorial in their honor. However, I'd have to say that the most touching part of our visiting their memorial was when we happened to run into this little old lady. This older woman happened to be the daughter of the lady who fed the soldiers before they were captured. She invited us into her home and showed us the exact spot where the men had eaten so many years before. Being in that very spot was, so far, the most touching experience of the trip... Thanks again Casey Cobb! ~*~ Rubianna
